Facts about CMV/HSV/Syphilis

An estimated 491 million people aged 15–49 (13%) worldwide have herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) infection, the leading cause of genital herpes.

Young children are a common source of CMV. By the age of 5 years, 1 in 3 children has been infected with CMV but usually does not have symptoms.

CMV is a member of the herpesvirus family, which includes herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, varicella-zoster virus, and Epstein-Barr virus.

About 15% of babies with congenital CMV will not have signs at birth but will later develop hearing loss.
